Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has left hospital after recovering from coronavirus.
The 77-year-old had been treated in a Mumbai hospital for three weeks, but has now tested negative and will rest at home.
His actor son, Abhishek Bachchan, is still in Nanavati Super Speciality Hospital with the virus.
The younger Bachchan wrote on Twitter: “My father, thankfully, has tested negative on his latest COVID-19 test and has been discharged from the hospital. He will now be at home and rest.
“Thank you all for all your prayers and wishes for him.”
He added that he will be remaining in hospital himself “due to some comorbidities”.
“Again, thank you all for your continued wishes and prayers for my family. Very humbled and indebted,” he said.
“I’ll beat this and come back healthier! Promise.”
The pair were both admitted to hospital on 11 July.
They were said to have “mild symptoms” and Abhishek had told their millions of fans not to panic.
Abhishek’s wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and their eight-year-old daughter, who both also contracted the virus, left the hospital last week after recovering.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a leading Bollywood actress.
The elder Bachchan is India’s most famous film star and has acted in more than 200 films over the past five decades.
Although the Bollywood film industry had returned to filming, he has been unable to return to set due to his age.
